a bit of my past you definitely didn’t know:
in 11th grade I took an elective on photography where everything was analog. i fell in love with shooting in film and working in the darkroom. i poured over composition technique, and decided at age 16 that photography was my passion.
then in university, the cool thing was having a DSLR and editing photos to perfection in post. i HATE editing in post. and shooting digital was just meh. but i felt ridiculous using film & darkroom to make something that could be done in seconds on a computer. so i decided that was it for my photography passion and moved on.
now in the world of AI, with everyone being sick of social media and starting to move offline again, it seems not so ridiculous anymore to make something by hand just for the sake of making it by hand.
there was a reason I didn’t take to digital photography. maybe the process of creating actually does matter more than the resulting creation. isn’t that what art is about anyways—enjoying the process of making something?
rediscovering analog & alternative photography feels like the beginning of a new artistic era for me 📸 enjoy!
