this summer has been…weird, creatively. been exploring a bunch of new directions with my art and just coming out of a creative block (and its sidekick, existential funk lol), when i got hit with a cold and was stuck in bed all week. today i’m finally feeling ok enough to satisfying my creative cravings with whatever limited art supplies i have at home. and i like it.
樂 (joy) and 想 (desire/wish) pages in my sketchbook:

These aren’t perfect, but I’ve been experimenting with abstract art inspired by my Chinese calligraphy practice.
I’ve been craving the flow and expression of Chinese calligraphy in a way that transcends language (partly because of my own limited grasp of the Chinese language)
Many of these were done on rice paper which is very thin and wrinkles, so I’m planning to mount a few of these on sturdier paper and see how it looks. Stay tuned!

These two abstract pieces came from experimenting with calligraphic brushstrokes in combination with other media like charcoal and acrylic and gold ink.
