Flow, Desire, Tranquility

Calligraphy pieces I created in advance of Greenpoint Open Studios:

行雲流水 (Flow), 11×17″, ink on paper, May 2025.

行雲流水 (Flow), which literally translates into “moving clouds, flowing water”, is phrase with special meaning to me. It’s a Chinese idiom describing movement or artistry so natural and unforced that it seems to arise without effort or intention. It was the greatest compliment I’ve ever received about my dancing. It pointed to two things at once: that the audience could feel the depth of my connection to my art, where naturalness arose through mastery, and the literal visual quality of smoothness and flow. I realized then that this was what I wanted in all forms of art I create.

想 (Desire) and 靜 (Tranquility), both created with an attitude of experimentation.
