I’m deep in my photography obsession and created 3 new darkroom prints in my closet this weekend.

Swivel was created using a technique some call “photopainting”. After exposing the negative normally, instead of dunking the entire paper into a tray of developer chemical, I dipped a paintbrush into the developer and painted the parts of the photo that I wanted to appear. I absolutely love this technique and can’t wait to try more!

My Mother’s Kitchen is a straight print, created using an enlarger with no additional lens filters. I think it turned out spectacularly and gives off a sense of nostalgia and familial care. I first thought about naming it “Chinese Kitchen” or “Asian Kitchen”, but I hope the warm feeling of my mom making me soup during one of my visits this year is one that resonates universally across cultures.

Strip is a work in progress — an excellent vision while I’m still learning the skills to execute it. This is the first time I tried a double exposure, and man is it COMPLICATED! This version is too greyed out and low in contrast, due to the nature of it being two images layered on top of each other. I spent a lot of time on Youtube learning more advanced techniques to fix this, like dodging/burning and using contrast filters (which are arriving in the mail next week). Stay tuned!
