@this_is_the_real_mike_meyer is in town so of course i had to take his sign painting workshop!
Day 1 was block letters, Day 2 was brush casual & script, Day 3 shadows & bevels. pretty happy with my results especially on the last day once we started to get the hang of the brush
GOLD (金) IN GOLD!! specifically in 23k gold leaf for the majority of the strokes + a cute 16k pale gold for the two dots. and the texture of the board makes it look naturally worn like a vintage sign.
can’t wait to put gilding on everythingggg. Gold leaf makes me one happy magpie 😄💖💎
I saw this lettering by Carl Holmes in his book “The ABC of lettering” (slide 5) and instantly fell in love! I love the retro feel and went for an art deco vibe with this piece, with the alternating matte and shiny lines. Imagine it on the signboard of an upsacle diner or fancy roller disco.
Funny enough, I can’t find a full alphabet sample of this lettering style anywhere in Carl Holmes’s book, only these 3 letters. Sooo…this might become the inspiration for the next typeface I create 😉
