The Spirit of Dance

(2026) Charcoal and ink on paper and canvas

These drawings were created during a two-week intensive Drawing Marathon at New York Studio School, led by Fran O’Neill. Having set aside drawing for a couple years, this series marks a return to the medium that first sparked my devotion to visual art.

Emerging from a personal mental health crisis that clarified what truly mattered, I remembered what I sought through art in the first place: to translate the transcendent, mind-body connection I experience in dance onto paper. My intention for this marathon was twofold: to discover what unlocks that “talking to God” presence on the page, and to build the formal mechanics of drawing required to communicate it.
