"Green" is an original oil painting by Bonnie Zhou, 2022. Oil painting on stretched canvas, 16 x 20 inches.

A lot of people ask me if this painting of this Asian woman is a self-portrait. Although it's not, I feel like my subconscious chose to paint her because I feel a kinship with her. Her with a face shape, hairstyle, and possibly life experience that could resemble my own.

What captivated me was her gaze...this rock solid sense of self that she exuded. My entire artist journey has been me learning to trust myself after a lifetime of being told what to do, what to think, and how to live. And here she was with this look that just told you....she knows herself. She trusts herself.

So, is this a self-portrait? Aspirationally, yes.
